Dr Raza Sayyed is a Surgical Oncologist (Cancer Surgeon) with Fellowship in Surgical Oncology followed by European Board of Surgery Qualification in Surgical Oncology. Dr Sayyed deals with surgical management of Cancers of GastroIntestinal Tract (esophagus, stomach, small and large intestines) using laparoscopic surgery. His special interest include Peritoneal Surface Malignancies (Pseudomyxoma Peritonei, Malignant Peritoneal Mesothelioma, Peritoneal Metastases from Colorectal or Ovarian cancer), Soft Tissue Sarcomas (especially Retroperitoneal Sarcomas), Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors, Advanced / Recurrent colorectal cancers, and Pelvic Exenteration.

Dr Raza has completed his training in General Surgery followed by Specialization in Surgical Oncology. He completed a two year fellowship in Surgical Oncology from Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Lahore in 2016. This was a comprehensive fellowship with rotations to cover training in gastrointestinal, hepatopancreaobiliary, breast, gynecological, head and neck, urological, thoracic and endocrine cancers including training in minimally invasive surgical management of gastrointestinal cancers. Subsequently, Dr Sayyed cleared European Board of Surgery Qualification in Surgical Oncology Examination in 2017.

 

Dr Raza Sayyed has been working as Surgical Oncologist at Patel Hospital, Karachi since September 2016 and has been instrumental in setting up the Surgical Oncology Service in the hospital. The service evaluates all patients in a multidisciplinary fashion and caters to gastrointestinal tract cancers (cancer of the esophagus, stomach cancer, small  intestines and colorectal cancers) and pancreatic cancers. All patients discussed in multidisciplinary team meeting before finalizing the treatment plan. Surgery offered as part of the multidisciplinary treatment options includes minimally invasive (laparoscopic surgery) as well as open surgery.

 

Dr Raza Sayyed’s special interests are peritoneal surface malignancies, soft tissue sarcomas (including retroperitoneal sarcomas and Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors) and locally advanced pelvic cancers requiring pelvic exenterations. All patients with peritoneal surface malignancies and soft tissue sarcomas are evaluated and discussed with international experts regarding treatment plans. Dr Sayyed in currently enrolled to obtain Certifications from the European School of Peritoneal Surface Oncology and the European School of Soft Tissue Sarcoma Surgery training programs.

 

Dr Sayyed has presented his experience of cancer management in various national and international conferences in the form of oral and poster presentations. In addition, Dr Sayyed is actively involved in multiple international collaborative research projects for cancers.
